The Counselling Process

I am committed to providing you with a safe and confidential service. Counselling provides a great opportunity to make progress on the issues that are concerning you either personally or in your relationship/s.

First appointment

The first appointment is about clarifying with you what your purpose is for coming to counselling and establishing some goals. At the end of the first session you will have decided what areas of your life you want to focus on and what changes if any you want to make.

Confidentiality

I offer you complete confidentiality unless you give me permission to share anything we have discussed with another person. The only exceptions to this are:
  • As a professional counsellor, I am required to attend supervision regularly (see below under "supervision")
  • If I believe you or someone else may be at serious risk of harm. (Where possible, I will discuss this with you first.)

Supervision

All practising counsellors in New Zealand are required to attend supervision. This means talking to an experienced counsellor about our client work to ensure that we are clear on our motivations, our own processes and that both the clients and ourselves are kept safe. My supervisor is bound by the same code of ethics and confidentiality that I am. I talk about my clients in such a way that they can't be identified.

Fees and funded counselling

I charge $110 per hour/session plus GST. This can be paid through internet banking, by cheque or cash.

I provide Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) through EAP Works and Vitae – your employer may fund up to three counselling sessions for you as part of an EAP programme. Please check with your HR department for more information.

I also work for North Shore Hospice providing counselling support for their clients and their families.

Cancellation Policy

24 hours' notice is required for cancellation or postponement of your appointment. There may be a client waiting for an available appointment whose opportunity is denied because of a short notice period.
